Ting, whose seasons were notable for featuring BIPOC, and local directors, designers, and actors, says he’s grateful for the community here who “practice their art with a sense of justice at its core.”

After seven years as Artistic Director of Cal Shakes, Eric Ting is leaving the East Bay theater company whose mission is to “redefine classical theater for the 21st century.” His last show, a collaboration with writer Marcus Gardley, is Lear, a modern spin on Shakespeare’s King Lear, where the hero is a Bay Area real estate magnate who lives in San Francisco’s Fillmore District.
