Actors’ Shakespeare Project presents a virtual streaming performance of Othello, translated by Mfoniso Udofia and directed by Christopher V. Edwards.
Venetian solder Othello has been promoted to general of the Venetian army and is the recent husband to Desdemona, the daughter of a powerful statesperson. When Othello promotes Cassio as his chief lieutenant instead of Iago, Iago begins to plot against Othello as an act of revenge. Iago leads Othello to believe Desdemona is unfaithful, and thus begins unravelling this classic story of jealousy, love, and loss. Actors’ Shakespeare Project leads the production with the following questions: What role does race play in this story? Who do we trust and why? And how are we vulnerable to those we trust the most?
